go,go,go

We have been on the go every day this week! Yesterday Makena had her eye appointment and today Brody had his 4 month well baby check-up. Did you know that all babies should be checked by an eyecare specialist between 6-12 months of age? It is a government sponsered program called Infantsee and it is free. Then a child should be checked at 3 and 5 years of age. I am passing this along because apparently not all peds. know to tell their patients. So here are the stats on my baby!
Age: 4 months 1 week Height: 26 inches Weight: 19 lbs 1 oz. (He did have a full diaper so technically he could be 18 lbs 14 oz. :) )
Percentiles: height 90% Weight 97% head 90%
DR report: He looks great!
Mama's Report: He is absolutly perfect!

Preschool, here she comes!

On Sunday, we went to an open house at Makena's preschool. She met both of her teachers and explored the classroom. We got to see some other parents and children who will attend the same one. It was wonderful! Then this morning, her main teacher came to our house for a home visit. She and Makena played with the beans and read a book together. I had the chance to chat with her and am feeling very good about this program! I found out that there are 14-16 students in Makena's class. The two teachers have divided up the class into small groups to make sure that each child is focused on daily. This means that although Makena will have two teachers, Mrs. V. will make sure to focus on Makena specifically when she is there. I REALLY like that idea. Makena can't wait to start! Her first day should be next Tuesday; it is pending on the fire marshall expection and licensing appointment. Pray that everything works out b/c we are ready to begin!

Poison Control Center

This all happened yesterday morning...
I was talking to my good friend Katherine on the phone about possibly getting together when I heard a scrapping and rattling noise. I quickly walked down the hallway only to see Makena standing on her stool with the linen closet doors open. In her right hand is the bottle of teething tablets and she is shaking the tiny tablets into her left hand. I yelled, "stop! Katherine, let me call you back" and grabbed the bottle out of her hand. I asked Makena to spit out the things in her mouth and used my finger to swipe out her mouth all the while, asking "did you take these? Did you eat any?" She said no but I still called poison control. Guess what the PCC lady said? "Oh, she could take the whole bottle and be fine. It is just powder sugar and doesn't even work." I was relieved to know that she would be fine so I asked the PCC lady why the work for my child. She said that is was just in the child's mind. Hmmmmmmmmmmm...very interesting. Well, I hung up the phone and told Makena to never open them again. I also put them up and realized that I am going to have to move my medicine cabinet as she can reach it now. Makena was fine the rest of the day. But, I do think that those teething things work for her so I will continue to use them! Besides, the ingredients listed are not powdered sugar....

Clean Teeth!

Today was Makena's first trip to the dentist. The office where we go is wonderful! They are very kind and were especially accommodating to Makena. The hygentist (sp?) showed her all of the tools before hand and let me smell the toothpaste. She used the toothbrush tool on Makena's hand so that Makena could feel what it would be like. I was so proud of my big girl as she sat so still for the x-rays. Makena even told me that she wanted me to wait in the other room. (I didn't but I thought that was neat.) When she was having her teeth cleaned, Makena held her mouth open so wide and did not even move a muscle! The hygentist gave Makena a special present: stickers, a purple toothbrush, toothpaste, and a ceramic bag to hold it. When the dentist came to look at Makena's teeth she was very complimentary of how good they look! The biggest compliment: no cavities!!!!! Yea for us! Makena let them put the flouride (sp?) trays in her mouth and held still for them. On the way out, the receptionist gave Makena another prize from the treasure chest. Overall, I was very happy and Makena was too. The only bummer thing is that I forgot my camera!!!!!!!!!!!! Soooooo no pictures!

Peace and Quiet

Both of my babies are sleeping....ahhhh :) Brody rolls over a lot so he likes to fall asleep on his side and ends up on his back now. However, he also seems to wake himself up more. He is waking up twice in the night to eat which is not fun for me! I am pooped! I am praying that he will once again sleep through the night soon!

Happy Birthday Makena Bee!

Today is Makena's third birthday! We celebrated it in Indy and Michigan with our families and will do a little friends b-day party on Saturday. We suprised her with a bicycle this morning! She LOVES it and has ridden it around the house and outside. I made her birthday waffles with a candle in it and sang "happy birthday" to her. After nap, she and I made brownies. We gave some to our neighbors and put three candles in one and sang again with Daddy and Brody. I can't believe that she is three years old! What a big girl!!

Happy Birthday Makena
