So each year we brave the bitter cold mountain water and press our own cider. (I think this year may be our last until the kids are way older and can help us wash the apples. It is freezing!!!) We had to fill up a huge white bucket of apples that had already fallen to the ground; these apparently make sweeter cider. We weeded out the really wormy/brownish spot/smooshy ones and filled our bucket. Then came the frost bite as we had to wash each apple in the huge bin filled with ice cold water. (It kills the pesticide so we can drink the cider.) After that, we get to do the fun job of throwing apples into the cider press and pressing the cider!! It is neat and only cost $17.00.....yea, $17.00 for cider and frost bite...see why it may be our last time for a few years?
